Southern Softflow have been installing water softeners in homes across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire for over 25 years. We take pride in always offering what we believe to be the best solution for your home. You can find more information about which water softeners we supply and install on our Water Softeners page. Below, we describe how we evaluate what is needed for a water softener installation during a home survey, what happens on installation day and also what happens if you ever move and want to take your water softener with you.

What happens in a home survey?

The first stage is to evaluate how a water softener can be installed. In a survey, we will consider:

  • The water hardness and pressure
  • Location of the mains stop cock and size of pipework
  • Drainage and overflow
  • Taps to be left unsoftened (drinking water and outside taps)

Once we have been clear on your requirements we will leave you with a bespoke quote there and then.

What happens on installation day?

  1. Installations typically take around half a day, with water switched off for around 2-3 hours.
  2. Before starting the installation, the installation plan is verified with the customer.
  3. Work is carried out to a high standard, and your home left as tidy as we found it.
  4. Once installed, the machine is commissioned, and our installer will run through instructions on how to operate the system.
  5. Time to enjoy soft water!

What happens if I move house?

1
Visit to your current home, disconnect the softener and close the existing connections.
2
Store your water softener at our unit, and perform a health check of your system to ensure it is in working order for re-installation in your new home.
3
Survey your new home, as per above, to work out an installation plan.
4
Re-install at your new home, hopefully as soon as possible after you have moved in so you don't live with hard water again for too long!

What Our Customers Say

“The service from start to finish was exceptional. Very skilled and knowledgeable plumbers, nothing was too much bother, brilliant receptionist, everything fitted well and explained along the way, went above and beyond - even reinstalled and adapted the cupboard around the new water softener and left us a box full of gifts and goodies! A pleasure to deal with such a great team, we highly recommend them.”

“Fast response to our enquiry, full information provided, work booked for following week. Fitter arrived on time, pleasant, efficient, very tidy and cleaned up when work finished. Very neat pipework, showed us how to isolate soft water if required at any time, and showed us position of new stopcock. Explained how filter system worked, helped us to set up App for notifications when salt low. Stacked spare salt in garage, advised how to apply for more supplies. Presented us with a delightful gift hamper of locally sourced products. Would highly recommend Southern Softflow Ltd.”

“We recently had Southern Softwater visit our home to walk us through the available options, and the experience from start to finish was excellent. The initial consultation was clear, informative, and pressure-free. They took the time to understand our needs, explained the different systems in a straightforward way, and answered all of our questions patiently. It felt like they genuinely wanted to help us make the right decision rather than just make a sale. The installation process was just as impressive. The installer arrived on time, was extremely professional, and worked efficiently while keeping everything tidy. He explained how the system works, made sure everything was set up perfectly, and left the area clean once the job was complete.Overall, we’re delighted with both the service and the product. It’s rare to find a company that delivers such a smooth and professional experience from consultation through to installation. Highly recommended.”

“Fantastic service from the Southern Softflow Team! My enquiry was dealt with promptly and expertly. We were first told by the guy from another local company who installed our water softener (before we owned the property) that the softener couldn’t be serviced reliably as it hadn’t been used for a while and was in any case 10 years old so in need of replacing. We were also told it would be unsafe to use and were quoted a heavy price by him to replace it. Keith from Southern Softflow came to have a look, He was knowledgeable, friendly and very understanding. He spent time analysing the water to make sure it was safe to use. He flushed the system through thoroughly and assured us the softener is in good working order so we wouldn’t need to replace it which was a great relief. Several weeks after Keith’s visit we are using our softener with no issues and are very relieved Southern Softflow operate in our area!”

“Brilliant service. Survey done clear explanation of product from Ben. Fitting done three days later. Very helpful and tidy technician. Added a hard water tap at the last minute no problem. Would highly recommend the service and product. Thanks guys!”

“From the first contact through to survey visit and arranging for installation, this family-run company was excellent, with plenty of communication. The water softener had to be installed in a very restricted space with very difficult to access mains water inlet and drain. However the company plumber found a workaround, even preserving some of the middle shelf in the cupboard concerned. The installation was completed in one morning, working was clean, and the finished job is very neat.”
